CoAngton Convalescent t lt,l
5320 CARRINGTON CIRCLE
STOCKTON,CALIFORNIA 95210
(209)473-3004
28 July 1988
AUG 2 1988
San Joaquin Local Health DistrictLT
1601 East Hazleton Avenue , T VIC
Stockton, Ca. 95201 F 17`5
Attn: Dr. Jogi Khanna, District Health Officer
Re: Facility Waiver For Infectious Waste Not To
Be Contained At A Waste Producing Facility For
More Than Four Days
Dear Dr. Khanna,
After discussing the issue of infectious waste generation
and Carrington Convalescent Hospital' s current and
historical patient acuity levels with the Director
of Nurses ' Mr. Calvin Baker, I respectfully request
a facility waiver regarding Section 66840 (d) of Title 22,
Environmental Health, Article 13, relating to the
storage and containment of infectious waste be gran`-ed
to Carrington Convalescent Hospital.
This facility' s philosophy, seeks at all times to maintain
a manageable patient acuity level in order that it can
provide exemplary nursing care to its residents .
Carrington Convalescent Hospital has had at no time
produced more than 100 kilograms ( 200 .261bs . ) of
infectious waste in any one single month, and therefore,
feels the above requirement of a "pick-up" every
four ( 4 ) days to be excessive. Carrington Convalescent
Hospital proposes a once a week pick-up to be realistic.
In granting a facility waiver, I believe this by no means
will affect Carrington Convalescent Hospital' s ability
to provide exemplary nursing care while concurrently
satisfying Title 22 ' s requirements for the safe and
proper disposal of infectious waste.
If there are any questions regarding Carrington
Convalescent Hospitals request for a waiver, please feel
free to contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
Carr ngton C nvalescent Hospital
1
Dennis L.
