WOUND AND SKIN PRECAUTIONS <br /> OSE* To prevent acquisition of infection by personnel and <br /> PURP <br /> patients from direct contact with wounds and heavily contami- <br /> nated articles® <br /> VISITORS: Report to the nurses station before entering room® <br /> Private Room ® desirable, but not necessary® <br /> Gowns - must be worn by all persons having direct contact with <br /> the patient. <br /> Masks - must be worn by all persons having direct contact with <br /> the patient with extensive drainage only® <br /> Hands - must be washed by all persons having direct contact <br /> with the patient, Must be washed before entering the room <br /> and on leaving the room or area, and as indicated during patient <br /> care, <br /> Gloves - must be worn by persons having direct contact with in- <br /> fected area® Two sets of gloves are to be used while changing <br /> dressings® <br /> .p.p® cuff and stethescope ® No special precautions unless con- <br /> taminated by drainage® If contamination occurs, articles should <br /> be wiped clean with germicidal solution® <br /> _Nee dles _and s�rin�es - no special precautions® <br /> Dressings sues: - must be considered potentially infective® <br /> Dressings and tissues should be handled with gloves and placed in <br /> double plastic bags and handled in the manner of "infectious <br /> wastes". <br /> Urine and feces ® no special precautions® <br /> Dishes - no special precautions® <br /> 2r no special precautions® <br /> Laborat2ry specimens - no special precautions. <br /> Linen - Avoid vigorous movement of linen while changing linen® <br /> Double bag technique is to be used® <br /> .L12jhinZ - No special precautions® <br /> Instruments <br /> 1 ® Reusable instruments that have come into contact with <br /> the infected area should be wrapped in am impervious plastic <br />
