RESPIRATORY ISOLATION <br /> InEpose: To prevent transmission of organisms by means of direct <br /> ,contact or droplets that are coughed, sneezed, or breathed into <br /> the environment. <br /> Visitors Report to nurses station before entering room® <br /> Caution All persons susceptible to the specific disease should <br /> be excluded from patient area; if contact is necessary, suscep- <br /> tibles must wear masks® <br /> Private Room - necessaryp door must be kept closed® <br /> Gowns - necessary for direct patient contact® <br /> Masks ® must be worn by all persons entering room if susceptible <br /> to disease. <br /> Hands - must be washed on entering and leaving room and as indi- <br /> cated during patient care® <br /> Gloves - necessary for contact with oral secretions® <br /> Articles - those contaminated with secretions must be disinfected <br /> or discarded, <br /> .p.p._cuff and stethesco e - should be kept in room® <br /> _Nee les crines use disposables® Place needles in "Sharps <br /> Discard" container and syringes in waste basket® <br /> Dressin& and tissues - should be double bagged and placed in <br /> waste basket, <br /> Urine and feces - no special precautions. <br /> Thermometers - should remain in room® Upon termination of iso- <br /> lation, thermometer and container should be discarded® <br /> Linen - no special precautions, except for staph infection, then <br /> linen must be double bagged before sending to laundry. <br /> Dishes - use disposables. <br /> inking water no special precautions® <br /> Clot ink d no special precautions® <br /> La orato e specimens - Sputum specimens from patient with pul- <br /> monary tuberculosis should be handled with care; a special <br /> sputum container with a tight fitting lid should be used* it <br /> should be appropriately labeled to alert laboratory personnel. <br />
