California Street <br />Stockton, Ca 95204 <br />(209) 943-0854 <br />POLICIES AND PROCEDURES RPM !Za <br />JUL 23196 <br />SUBJECT: Handling of Infectious Waste ENVIROMENTAL HEALT14 <br />FERmiT/SERVICES <br />DEFINITION: <br />Infectious waste is defined as disposable materials which are likely to transmit <br />etiologic agents or pose a substantial threat to public health or the enivron- <br />ment if improperly managed. <br />Example: Dirty AV fistula needles and it dermic needles used on dialys <br />patients where in such type of needle could puncture and inflict harm <br />contaminate an individual if improperly handled and disposed of. I <br />PROCEDURE: <br />1. Effective immediately, all used AVF needles and hypodermic needles <br />will be disposed of and stored in a BD red hard plastic container <br />labelled with the words "Infectious Waste". <br />2. Each Friday morning the "Infectious Waste" container will be sealed <br />and picked up by Stockton Scavenger personnel whereby a receipt of <br />pick up will be provided at each pick up time. <br />3. This receipt will be kept in a Log Book in the Dialysis Clinic as <br />proof df <br />4. The "Certified Hazardous Waste" number of Stockton Scavenger is <br />#0457. They are responsible for final disposal of said Infectious <br />Waste. Their responsibility starts from the time Infectious Waste is <br />picked up from the Dialysis Clinic. <br />6. The maximum amount of time Infectious Waste is stored at the <br />Dialysis Clinic is seven days. <br />7. The above procedure must be followed strictly. <br />
