Sharps waste are placed into approved sharps containers immediately after <br /> use. <br /> 2.2.1. Sharps waste is any device having acute rigid corners, edges, or <br /> protrusions capable of cutting or piercing. Sharps include: <br /> 2.2.1.1. Needles, lancets, and sterile-connect wafers. <br /> 2.2.1.2. Broken glass items contaminated with biohazardous <br /> waste. <br /> 2.2.2. Sharps containers must be rigid, puncture-resistant, and,when <br /> sealed, is leak resistant and cannot be reopened without great <br /> difficulty. <br /> 2.2.3. Sharps containers are labeled with the words"sharps waste" or <br /> with the international biohazard symbol and the word <br /> `BIOHAZARD"5. <br /> 2.2.4. These sharps containers, when full, can be placed in containers <br /> with biohazard bags6. <br /> 2.3. Medical waste containers should not be used for other purposes except <br /> after decontamination and removal of medical waste labels. <br /> 2.4. Medical waste that is stored in an area prior to transfer to the designated <br /> accumulation area shall be stored in an area that is locked or under direct <br /> supervision$. <br /> 3. This section defines how medical waste is transported to Center of Operations <br /> from a collection site generating less than 20 pounds of medical waste per week. <br /> 3.1. Less than 20 pounds of medical waste is transported at any one time. <br /> 3.2. A copy of the LQHE must be available in vehicles transporting the <br /> medical waste. <br /> 3.3. When the medical waste is brought back to Center of Operations,the <br /> medical waste log is completed with the following information. <br /> 3.3.1. Offsite location <br /> 3.3.2. Date of transport <br /> 3.3.3. Type of medical waste <br /> 3.3.4. # of containers <br /> 3.3.5. Transporter's name <br /> 4. This section defines how medical waste is accumulated at Center of Operations. <br /> 4.1. The designated accumulation area is a locked area denying access to <br /> unauthorized persons. <br /> 4.2.
