RMW will be stored in a designated secure location which will ensure that the
integrity of the containers is maintained, prevent leaks from entering the water
supply, provide protection from the weather, be easily cleanable, be
impermeable to liquids, and meet other applicable regulatory requirements.
RMW storage areas must be kept clean, and spills must be cleaned up
promptly. RMW storage areas will be secured and only authorized staff will be
allowed access.
Disposal
Disposal of RMW will be done in a manner which is in accordance with
applicable regulations. RMW may be incinerated or autoclaved per federal,
state and local requirements. Refer to State specific and local requirements
section for any additional guidance.
All staff who prepare RMW for shipment, and staff who sign RMW manifests,
are required to have documented training regarding regulated medical waste
every 3 years. In addition, any staff who handle RMW are required to be trained
on bloodborne pathogens (reference the Exposure Control Plan in the Safety
Manual for additional information).
•
All regulated medical waste manifest records and all related forms and
documentation are to be retained per state regulations unless longer retention
is indicated (as in the case of any unresolved enforcement action regarding the
regulated activity or as requested by certain governmental agencies).
Locality—V. • • • Federal
I.
