September 26 , 1991 OCT 0 1
j IT ik L r 1 j-_
Donna Herau, REHS
Program Manager
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
DELTA Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 2009
HEALTH Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Ms . Herau,
Providing Health Oriented
Services and Information 1 . The only medical waste generated at Delta Health Care 's
to the Community
two facilities are sharps . These include lancets,
capillary tubes, TB tine tests, and needles with
syringes .
914 North Center Street, Stockton, CA 95202 , and
911 Industrial Way, Lodi , CA 95240
2 . The generated waste each month is approximately a I
quart red puncture-proof plastic infectious waste
container in Stockton and 1/2 quart or less at the Lodi
clinic , per month .
a) As a sharp is used , it is put directly into a 1 quart
red plastic infectious waste container . Once the
container is full , a heat sensitive tape is applied
to the closed lid and it is autoclaved at a
temperature of 250- F for one half hour . The date
and temperature are documented in the log book.
Since the container is now considered non-infectious,
it is disposed of in the regular waste .
b ) The puncture-proof container, when not is use , is
stored in a specifically marked larger container
labeled in English and Spanish to designate their
contents .
c) In case of equipment failure (such as the autoclave ) ,
914 N.Center Street the puncture-proof container will continue to be
Stockton,CA stored until equipment is repaired, in order to
95202 render the sharps non-infectious .
209/466-3245 d) Because Delta Health Care is a generator of a small
amount of waste , no registered hazardous waste
O'llawle handler is employed by the facility.
911 Industrial Way e ) n/a
Lodi,CA
95240 f ) n/a
209/369-2704
g ) A log is kept of all sharps containers autoclaved -
the date and temperature . This is kept for a minimum
of 3 years .
United Way
ofJoaquin G ntY
