B, Suite 35 Sacramento, CA 95825 Subject: Response to Statement of Deficiencies and Plan of Correction, dated 8/24/87 Dear Ms. Crawford: First let me clarify the date(s) on which Mr. Bierdermann conducted inspections of our Stockton and Lodi clinics . Lodi was inspected on May 22, 1987 and Stockton on May 29th. Neither was inspected on July 10, 1987, that was the date of Mr. Vali- notils letter to us concerning the April 22 inspection. The only deficiency noted for our Stockton clinic was the lack of an annual calibration of the autoclave thermo- meter; we rechecked this with the single autoclave technician in the county. His response was that such calibration was unnecesary since our monthly bacteriological test. was. ample.. evidence of the adequecy of our sterilization procedure. We test the autoclave monthly using "Kilit" ampules which are analyzed and reported to us by the Local Health District laboratory. Records of these test results are on file. Each autoclaving activity is appropriately logged and these records are maintained and open to inspection. As regards the inspection of our Lodi clinic: during the period covered by the inspection the autoclave iir th&t clinic was not in use since we had ceased doing IUD insertions at that site. Currently that autoclave is used only for occa- sional (every 3-6 months ) sterilization of infectious waste ( "sharps" ) using procedures and appurtenances approved by the Local Health District.
