Types of Medical Waste generated at our facility include: <br /> a. Sharps, (needles, glass vials, blades, etc) <br /> b. Blood and body fluid-contaminated surgical sponges, <br /> cotton, and packing materials from wounds <br /> c. Soiled laundry <br /> 2. Monthly amount of medical waste is +-60# <br /> 3 . Medical waste handling procedures: <br /> A) Blood and other body fluid -soaked dressings, sponges, <br /> etc are autoclaved (265 degrees @ 20min) and disposed of <br /> in regular city trash <br /> Blood. and other body fluid soaked laundry is soaked in <br /> a solution of Sodium Hypochlorite 1:10 for 20 minutes, <br /> placed in a plastic bag separately from other laundry, <br /> and sent to Busy Bee Laundry of Lodi. <br /> Sharps are placed in a puncture-proof container and <br /> mailed out in special containers provided by the <br /> NES company (see attached flyer) for incineration. <br /> b.. In case of equipment failure, blood and other bodyrfluid <br /> soaked materials will be soaked in a solution of <br /> sodium hypochlorite 1:10 for 20 minutes and discarded <br /> in regular trash <br /> d.
