5.0 Training <br /> • All employees who have or are reasonably anticipated to have occupational <br /> e.xposure to bloodborne pathogens will receive training conducted by an approved <br /> trainer(as approved by the Director of Clinical Operations). <br /> • The training curriculum will include the following elements: <br /> - A copy and explanation of the standard <br /> - Epidemiology and symptoms of bloodbome pathogens <br /> - Modes of transmission <br /> - Life Line Screening's Exposure Control Plan and how to obtain a copy <br /> - Methods to recognize exposure tasks and other activities that may <br /> involve exposure to blood <br /> - Use and limitations of Engineering Controls, Work Practices, and PPE <br /> - PPE -types, use, location, removal, handling, decontamination, and <br /> disposal <br /> - PPE -the basis for selection <br /> - The use of approved alcohol-based waterless hand cleansers and <br /> cleansing wipes when hand washing facilities are not available <br /> - Hepatitis B Vaccine—safety, benefits, and method of administration <br /> - Emergency Procedures—for blood and other potentially infectious <br /> materials <br /> - Exposure incident procedures <br /> • An employee Education and Training Record will be completed for each employee <br /> upon completion of training. This document and training certificates will be kept <br /> with the employee's records at the corporate office. Copies of the training <br /> certificates will also be in the Standard Operating Procedures binder with the field <br /> team. <br /> 6.0 Hepatitis B Vaccination <br /> 6.1 Information on Hepatitis B vaccination regarding safety, benefits, efficacy, methods of <br /> administration and availability will be provided in the training for new and existing field <br /> personnel. <br /> 6.2 The vaccination will be administered in accordance with United States Public Health <br /> Service recommended protocol. <br /> 6.3 The Hepatitis B vaccination series will be made available, at no cost within 10 days of <br /> initial assignment, to employees who have occupational exposure to blood or OPIM <br /> unless: <br /> • The employee has previously received the series and antibody testing <br /> reveals that the employee is immune. <br /> • Medical reasons prevent taking the vaccination. <br /> • The employee chooses not to participate. <br /> 6.4 All employees are strongly encouraged to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series. <br /> A consent form will be stored with the employee's records at the corporate office. <br /> 6.5 If an employee chooses to decline Hepatitis B vaccination, then the employee must <br /> sign a declination statement to this effect.
