Each Western Dental facility <br /> 6. does NOT treat medical waste onsite. It is against company policy to autoclave any <br /> medical waste at the dental facility. Disciplinary action will be taken against any <br /> employee who violates this policy. <br /> 7. does NOT want to apply for a Limited Quantity Hauling Exemption. It is against <br /> company policy for any staff member to transport medical waste to a medical waste <br /> treatment facility or transfer station. <br /> Important rules to remember <br /> 1. The Floor Supervisor is responsible for filing the tracking documents after each pick- <br /> up in the Sharps Disposal section of OSHA Master Training and Documentation <br /> manual. These documents must be kept on file for 3 years. <br /> 2. Always have sharps containers available. Warnings will be given to the Floor <br /> Supervisor if sharps waste is disposed of improperly. <br /> 3. Order appropriate size of sharps containers. A "2 gallon" sharps container must be <br /> used in the operatories. Brackets must be mounted to the wall above the chairside <br /> assistance counter to locate securely the sharps container. An additional sharps <br /> container must be placed in the nurses' station. <br /> 4. Sharps waste must be disposed of in the sharps container in the operatory. <br /> 5. Medical waste must be disposed of in the sharps container located in the sterilization <br /> area. This container will be picked up by the hazardous waste hauler EVERY time, <br /> regardless if it is full or not. <br /> Never over fill sharps containers. <br /> 6. The Office Manager is responsible for insuring that the office has a locking trash bin <br /> for the trash disposal. <br /> 7.
