Wilson Way, Stockton
Ms. Longworth,
Thank you for your response dated March 24, 2005 to the above-mentioned medical waste
inspection. In reviewing the letter and the revised Medical Waste Management Plan(MWMP)
submitted, you noted that the sharps waste was picked up every two weeks due to the "..small
amount of waste that is generated.." However, according to California Health and Safety Section
118280(d)(1)(A), if greater than 20 pounds of sharps waste is generated in one month it shall be
removed every 7 days. Your paperwork shows this site routinely generates greater than 20
pounds per month therefore it must be removed weekly.
Also, in reviewing your MWMP you discuss removal of dental amalgam in teeth but do not
address the amalgam collected within the drains and pea traps of sinks and unused amalgam.
Please address this waste amalgam in your policy and provide proof of scrap metal recycling
with copies of receipts.
I am enclosing a copy of a fact sheet produced by the Department of Toxic Substances Control,
which discusses proper disposal of waste amalgam, lead foil, lead film storage boxes, lead
blankets, and x-ray film waste. Please provide a copy of your policy for disposal of the above-
mentioned items.
If you have any questions regarding this letter, please call me at (209) 468-3451.
Thank you for your cooperation.
'__'N<
Kase L.
