It is against <br /> company policy for any staff member to transport medical waste to a medical waste <br /> treatment facility or transfer station. <br /> Important rules to remember <br /> 1. The Floor Supervisor is responsible for filing the tracking documents after each pick- <br /> up in the Sharps Disposal section of OSHA Master Training and Documentation <br /> manual. These document must be kept on file for 3 years. <br /> 2. Always have sharps containers available. Warnings will be given to the Floor <br /> Supervisor if sharps waste is disposed of improperly. <br /> 3. Order appropriate size of sharps containers. One size is for the operatory and another <br /> size may be ordered for the nurses' station. <br /> Never over fill sharps containers. <br /> 4. The Office Manager is responsible for insuring that the office has a locking trashbin <br /> for the trash disposal. <br /> Disposal of Medical Waste <br /> There have been significant changes in California's Medical Waste Management Act. One <br /> change redefines regulated medical waste to include. <br /> 1. Biohazardous Waste 2. Sharps <br /> Biohazardous Waste <br /> ➢ "Waste which at the point of transport from the generator's site, at the point of <br /> disposal, or thereafter, containing recognizable fluid blood or fluid blood <br /> products."
