Lodi City Landfill November 16,2011
• North ofAwani Drive,Lodi, California Project No. 104690061
11.2. LFG Monitoring Wells-Drilling and Sampling
Drilling will be conducted by a bonded, C-57-licensed drilling contractor with the appropri-
ate current certificates, experience, and training. Borings for the LFG wells will be drilled
using a truck-mounted hollow stem auger (HSA) drill rig. At each location, hand auguring
will be attempted for the upper 5 feet of each boring to reduce the potential for encountering
subsurface utilities. The borings will be drilled using 8'/a inch outside diameter HSAs to the
total depths. Clean HSAs will be used for each well in order to prevent potential cross-
contamination between the borings/wells.
During drilling, relatively undisturbed samples will be collected at approximately 5-foot inter-
vals and/or based on subsurface conditions to the total depth drilled using a split spoon sampler
lined with stainless steel tubes. The sampler will be driven approximately 18 inches in advance
of the HSA by a 140-pound hammer falling 30 inches. Upon retrieving the sampler from the
borehole, the least disturbed sample will be covered on both ends by TeflonTM sheeting, and
• sealed with plastic end caps. Samples collected while hand auguring the upper five feet of each
boring will be immediately placed into laboratory-supplied glass jar containers. Soil cuttings
generated from drilling the LFG wells will be placed into properly labeled 55-gallon DOT
drums and temporarily stored on site pending analytical testing and offsite disposal. W
11.3. LFG Monitoring Well Constructions
Based on the anticipated depth of wastes, and relatively shallow depth to groundwater, sin-
gle probes are proposed to be constructed in each LFG monitoring well. The LFG
monitoring wells will be constructed pursuant to applicable portions of CCR Title 27, Sec-
tion 20925 specifications and in accordance with BMPs. Factory-wrapped screened and
solid polyvinyl chloride(PVC) casings will be used to construct the wells. The well casing
materials will be kept covered in factory-wrapped plastic to avoid contamination until they
are lowered into the boring. Monitoring wells will be constructed of flush jointed, threaded,
3/4-inch inside-diameter (I.D.), schedule 80, PVC pipe. Well screens will be constructed of
flush threaded;machine slotted(0.020-inch), 3/4-inch I.D.,schedule 80,PVC pipe.
104690061 R&W.&c 27
