A-- 1 F1_E 382- 063-00
APPENDIX A
FIELDMD AND LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS
Field Investigation
The f i.eld investigation consisted of a surface reconnaissance and
a subsurface exploratory program. On July 20 , S'eptomber 8 , and
October 13 ; 14 , 15 and 18 , 1 982 , e-leven 6- inch exploratory
borings were. advanced. The. boring. and test pit locations are
shown on Drawing 1 . The test pits
its wereadvanced on October 21,
and November 4 , 1982 .
The soils encountered were logged in the field during the
exploration and with-h supplementar.-y laboratory test data are
described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification
System.
A mod.if ted standard penetration test was- performed at selected
dept.hs . This test represents the resistan-ce to driving a 2
1/2- inch diameter core barrel. The driving energy was provided
by a hammer weighing 140 pounds failing 30. inches . Relatively
Aft'i undisturbed soil samples were obtained while. performing this test .
Bag samples of the disturbed soil were obtained from the auger
' cuttings. All samples were returned. to our Fresno .laboratory for
evaluation .
Laboratory Investigation
The laboratory investigation was
programmed to determine the
physical and mechanical properties of the foundation- soil
'underlying the site . Test results were used as criteria for
determining the, engine.ering suitability of the surface and
subsurface materials encountered.
In density., direct shear and
- situ moisture content, dry
consolidation. tests were determined for the undisturbed samples
representative of the s-ubsurface material . These tests ,
supplemented by our visual observation, comprised the basis for
our evaluation of the site material.
The logs of the exploratory borings and laboratory determinations
are presented in this Appendix.
I he Fowidadon Engineci-s, hic.
