Serious or Major Injury <br /> In the event of a medical emergency when actual or suspected serious injury occurs, <br /> the following procedures shall be implemented: <br /> Survey the scene end evaluate whether the area is safe for entry. <br /> Remove the expos,:d or injured person(s) from immediate danger. <br /> Render first aid if n acessary. Decontaminate affected personnel after critical first aid <br /> is given. <br /> Obtain paramedic ,ervices or ambulance transport to local hospital. This procedure <br /> shall be followed even if there is no visible injury. <br /> 1. Call 9-1-1. <br /> 2. Identify location, request medical assistance, provide name and telephone <br /> number. <br /> 3. Request as,,;istance from emergency medical service and/or additional <br /> assistance. <br /> Y Other personnel in the work area shall be evacuated to a safe distance until the <br /> SSHO determines-hat it is safe for work to resume. If there is any doubt regarding <br /> the condition of the work area, work shall not commence until all hazard control <br /> issues are resolvec. <br /> Fill out accident rer-orting forms and associated documents. <br /> If a fatal injury occurs, the following additional steps will be followed: <br /> ■ Notify immediat3 supervisor; <br /> ■ Notify Project H 3alth and Safety Manager; <br /> ■ CalRecycle will nitiate contact with Cal/OSHA and other appropriate agencies; <br /> ■ All work aCtiVitiE S on the project must be stopped on the project for 24 hours; and <br /> ■ Assist Cal/OSHA as directed. <br /> FIRST AID <br /> Qualified personnel only shall give first aid and stabilize an individual needing <br /> assistance. Life suppo t techniques such as CPR and treatment of life threatening <br /> problems such as airway obstruction, and shock will be given top priority. Professional <br /> medical assistance shall be obtained at the earliest possible opportunity. <br /> To provide first-line as!;istance to field personnel in the case of sickness or injury, the <br /> following items will be mmediately available: <br /> ■ First aid kit; <br /> ■ Supply of clean water; <br /> ■ Blanket; and <br /> The location of the above items will be established prior to beginning work and will be <br /> discussed in detail at the site safety orientation meeting. <br /> Lodi City Landfill 35 January 2012 <br /> Site Safety and Health Plar <br />
