Box 2009
rayl q.
Stockton, CA 95201 ,
RE: Integrated Waste Management Board
Letter of 30 November 1990
Austin Road Landfill, Stockton, California
As per our recent telephone conversation we are forwarding to
you documents that will hopefully shed some light on the
controversy that has arisen about the practice of returning
Landfill Gas condensate back to the landfill where the gas
originated.
Figure 1 shows the typical landfill construction at the
Austin Road Landfill.
Figure 3 shows the trap that formerly was the disposal for the
condensate from the plant.
Figure 4 shows the present leach line, located less than 2 feet
under the surface, the method of disposal that has been in
service approximately 2 years now.
Figure 5 shows the general location of the leach line in the
landfill.
As you can see, the condensate has a great deal of refuse to
percolate through before it would reach native soil.
In response to your request we have included a summary of the
laboratory tests of the condensate that we have submitted to the
State Water Quality Board in our reporting program to them as
well a copy of the recent flow rates.
The continued operation of the plant provides several benefits to
the City and the County:
- Reduction of Landfill Gas surface emissions.
- Reduction of Landfill Gas odors and lateral migration
into surrounding areas.
- Destruction of Methane and other compounds that are
considered harmful to the environment.
- Property taxes paid on otherwise undevelopable
property.
