CITYMF STOCKTON
A;P
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
CITY HALL
425 N. EL DORADO STREET
STOCKTON, CA 95202-1997
August 15, 1994
Mr. Tom Dunkelman
McCormick and Baxter EPA Superfund Site
1214 West Washington
Stockton, CA 95203
ENVENTAL EALIH
PERMIT/SEWCES
EPA REMOVAL OF WOODWASTE FROM CITY OF STOCKTON AUSTINIROAD
LANDFILL
On July 21, 1994 EPA Superfund Site Manager Brad Shipley told Raju Mathew of San
Joaquin County Environmental Health that EPA would dig up and remove the wood waste that
was hauled from the McCormick and Baxter Superfund Site to Austin Road Landfill on June
16, 1994. As yet, EPA (or their representative) has not told the City when or how this would
occur. San Joaquin County Environmental Health has determined that testing of a
representative sample of the waste shows that the waste disposed of in the landfill exceeds
California Code of Regulations Title 22 limits for Pentachlorophenol.
The City of Stockton holds EPA responsible for any water quality impact that may result from
disposal of this waste in Austin Road Landfill and requests that EPA advise the City
immediately when and how it will be removed.
Contact Solid Waste Manager Mike Miller (937-8826) or myself (937-8827) if you have any
questions regarding the City's position on this matter.
STEP EIV CHEN
DEPUTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR, SOLID WASTE
 100 18
R.
