Public Health and Safety(Cont.) <br /> (d) Additional engineering controls should be <br /> implemented by the site operator,if needed, to <br /> control dust emissions. Such controls might <br /> include wind screens near the unloading areas or <br /> the use of dust suppressants. <br /> (e) If the above engineering controls cannot reduce <br /> employee dust exposure below an acceptable <br /> level as determined by the LEA,site personnel at <br /> risk should be supplied with gloves,coveralls, <br /> eye protection,and respirators. <br /> (f) Wastes must not leave the landfill site on <br /> workers clothing. This EIR suggests the <br /> following measures: <br /> • working clothes should be left behind at the <br /> landfill and cleaned by the operator; <br /> • shower facilities and changing areas should <br /> be provided at the project site so that <br /> workers do not carry material off-site;and <br /> • dust accumulated on non-washable items <br /> should be removed by vacuuming,not <br /> brushing or blowing. <br /> (g) Workers should not be allowed to eat near the <br /> active landfill. <br /> S.28 <br />
