KLEINFELDER
through the inside of the protective drill casing. Standard steel centralizers were used
approximately every 50 feet to help center the casing in the boring. In each well, Monterey
Sand No. 2/12 was used as the filter pack material. The sand was placed in the annulus
between the well casing and the protective casing. The protective casing was removed
gradually during the installation of the annular material. The filter pack was brought to a
level seven feet above the top of the screen to allow for compaction of the filter pack under
the weight of the remaining annular seal. Monitoring well construction details are
presented in Table 3-2.
After installing the sand pack, each well was bailed for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. This
allowed for settling of the filter pack. The filter pack dropped 11 inches in MW-2.
Additional sand was added to bring the top of the filter pack to 7 feet above the top of the
screen. The filter pack did not drop after bailing in -1.
Each well is protected by a 4-foot steel locking security cover with a stainless steel well
identification tag. The security covers are secured in place with cement. A representative
of the San Joaquin Local Health District was present during the grouting of both wells.
3.3.4 Water Level Measurements
The tops of the monitoring wells were, surveyed by R.W. Siegfried and Associates.
Horizontal coordinates of the wells are on the same horizontal datum used in the 1987
landfill mapping project, conducted by The San Joaquin County Public Works. The
vertical coordinates are referenced to the USGS mean sea level elevation used by the San
Joaquin County Department of Public Works.
Water level measurements were taken July 1989, October 1989, February 1990 and April
1990 following the protocol discussed in Appendix A.
3.3.5 Ground Water Sampling
Ground water samples were collected quarterly, following the protocol discussed in
Appendix A. In July 1989, samples were submitted to the laboratory for analysis of
constituents and parameters listed in the SWAT proposal. Subsequent samples were
submitted for analysis of constituents and parameters- listed under "Ground Water
FOOTHILL 20
