over the liquid near the edge of the evaporation pond on the site (see
Figure 1) as required in the Guidelines.
2.2 WELL DETAILS
The gas monitoring well details are presented in the ASWAT proposal
(see Appendix A). Construction details are provided in Appendix C.
2.3 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT
The equipment used in sampling landfill gas is described in the ASWAT
proposal (see Appendix A).
2.4 SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
2.4.1 Landfill Gas Wells
Field personnel sampled the gas monitoring wells on February 25 and
26, 1988, 2 months after their installation. A technician attached a
pump to the nipple in the well cap and drew out at least two well
volumes of entrained gas and air to purge the well.
To sample a gas monitoring well, the technician attached a 10 -liter
Tedlar bag to the pump discharge line and drew a sample at a pumping
rate of about 1 liter per minute. Immediately after the well was sam-
pled, a reading was taken on a GasTech meter to provide a quality
control (QC) check on laboratory test results for methane. During
sampling and transport, the Tedlar bag was kept in a light -sealed
cardboard box at all times to prevent exposure to sunlight which could
degrade the compounds of interest.
Within 72 hours of collection, the landfill gas samples were analyzed
for the following compounds to satisfy the requirements in Guidelines:
PJ9 9390405.00D 2-2 Rev. 0 09/07/88
Emon Associates
