kn KLEINFELDER
Mineral and Other Parameters
The vadose zone samples from B-2 and the background boring, B-4,have a similar content
of the analyzed cations and anions. They also have similar pH's (8.5 and 8.4) TDS's (both
at 50 mg/1) and moisture contents (6.1% and 7.2%). The vadose zone sample from B-1
contains detectable concentrations of calcium, magnesium, and chloride. The TDS
concentration (80 mg/1) and the moisture content (12.8%) are slightly higher than
observed in the background soil sample. The slight variation could be due to natural
variability.
4.3 LEACHATE
Two soil samples were analyzed to assess the nature of leachate at the landfill. One was
collected from B-1 at the waste/soil interface, and one was a composite of three samples
collected from B-5, at the eastern toe of the landfill. No saturated soil or standing leachate
was encountered in the borings. The analytical results of the leachate samples are
presented in Table 4-2. Chain-of-custody and analytical results are given in Appendix D.
4.3.1 ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Organic
No organic constituents were detected in leachate soil samples above the laboratory
reporting limits.
Metals
The leachate sample collected from the soil/waste interface in B-1 contained
concentrations of aluminum, iron, and titanium similar to background soil concentrations
observed in B-4. The leachate sample also contained boron at 14 mg/l and a trace of
barium (0.3 mg/1). The leachate composite sample from B-5 contained slightly higher
aluminum, iron, titanium, and vanadium concentrations than the background sample. It
also contained detectable barium, boron, copper, manganese, and silver.
FOOTHILL 25
