5.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE/QUALITY CONTROL
An extensive quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) program was
implemented during the Foothill Sanitary Landfill ASWAT testing to
produce accurate, precise, and complete data. The QA/QC program is
divided into two major parts: field quality control and laboratory
quality control.
5.1 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
• a 111'1 . eI
Before field sampling, the following equipment checks and calibrations
were performed:
• Leak check - The ambient air samplers and the well sam-
pling pump were inspected for loose fittings and leaks.
A positive pressure leak check was performed with a soap
solution.
• Pump flow calibration - The inline rotometers were cali-
brated against a reference bubble flow meter in EMCON's
laboratory. The calibration curves developed in the
laboratory were subsequently used to determine the pump
flow rate in the field.
• Meteorological station calibration - The meteorological
station was set up and operations checked. If the wind
direction vane data output did not correspond to the wind
vane's direction, an electronic calibration was performed
for both wind direction and wind speed.
• OVA calibration - The OVA is factory -calibrated and
should not require calibration unless the analyzer is
repaired. However, a complete check of the system and
verification of the calibration was performed before the
sampling event.
• GasTech meter calibration - In the office or field the
GasTech meter was leak checked, the oxygen detector
calibrated, the percent gas detector calibrated against a
47.4 percent methane gas standard, and the percent lower
explosive limit (LEL) detector calibrated against a
2.5 percent methane gas (50 percent LEL) standard.
PJ9 9390405.00D 5-1 Rev. 0 09/07/88
Emcon Associates
