KLEINFELDER
season to assess the potential 'impact of the landfill on
landfill runoff during the rainy se P P
surface water in the area.
No evidence that hazardous materials are leaking from the landfill into the vadose zone,
ground water, or surface water was found in this investigation. It appears that elevated
concentrations of boron may exist in soil under the oldest part of the landfill and the
moisture content and TDS of the soil may be somewhat higher than background. Soil
samples collected to assess the nature of leachate also indicate the presence of apparently
elevated boron. No hazardous level of boron has been established at this time, based on
Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (.CCR). Traces of four other metals;
- barium, copper, manganese and silver were reported in the leachate sample from the
eastern toe of the landfill. These metals were present in a distilled water leach of the soil
samples at concentration, below maximum contaminant levels (MCLS) for drinking water.
Ground water at the landfill generally flows south-southwest with a gradient of
approximately 0.2 percent. MW-1 is an upgradient well and MW-2 is downgradient of the
landfill. LW-1, the on-site domestic well is cross-gradient of the landfill. Ground water
quality at the landfill is good. No evidence of impact by the landfill on the ground water
was found in this investigation.
No evidence of impact by the landfill on surface water bodies near the landfill was found in
this investigation. It does appear that elevated levels of anions and cations and overall
TDS existed in surface runoff from the landfill on the eastern side of the landfill in January
1990. Elevated iron concentrations were detected in surface runoff on the east and south
sides of the landfill in February 1990. However, no impact of the high 'IDS in the surface
runoff was noted approximately 400 feet down stream of the landfill during January 1990.
This executive summary is subject to the limitations discussed in Section 8.
FOOTHILL 2
