INTRODUCTION
San Joaquin County is submitting this fourth quarter and annual 2003 monitoring report for the
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill (CHSL) in compliance with Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR)
Order No. 5-01-176 issued by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley
Region, on June 14, 2001.
The CHSL is located in southern San Joaquin County at the intersection of Interstate 580 and Corral
Hollow Road(Figure 1). Landfill was closed in 1991.
MONITORING PROGRAM
Water quality was monitored consistent with WDR Order No. 5-01-176.
' Groundwater
Shallow Aquifer
The.groundwater monitoring network consists of seven monitoring wells. Three wells
(SB-1, W-4 and W-5) are.used to monitor the shallow, perched aquifer. Well SB-1 is an up-
gradient well, and wells MW-4 and MW-5 are down-gradient wells. The flow in the shallow aquifer
is historically bi-directional (Figure 2).
Piezometer PZ-1 was installed for the evaluation monitoring program(Appendix I). The piezometer
tallows measurement of the shallow aquifer elevation.
Deep Aquifer
Two wells MW-6 and MW-7 were installed in 2003, and are used to monitor the deep aquifer.
Well MW-7 is up-gradient to well MW-6. Groundwater flows in a northeasterly direction.
Monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-2 have been dry since 1990. These wells are retained, but are not
monitored.
Groundwater samples are analyzed for the following quarterly monitoring and field parameters as
specified in WDR Order No. 5-01-176:
' Groundwater Elevation Total dissolved solids(TDS)
• Temperature Chloride
• Electrical conductivity Sulfate
pH Nitrate-nitrogen
• Turbidity Volatile organic compounds
LL a Corral Hollow Landfill 1 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
4TH Qtr/Annual 2003 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin-January 28,2004
