t
Surface water samples also are to be analyzed for the following constituents of concern (COCs)
every 5 years.
• Total organic carbon • Cyanide
• Carbonate 0 Sulfide
• Bicarbonate • Oil and Grease
• Total alkalinity • Chemical oxygen demand
• Metals 0 Dissolved oxygen
MONITORING RESULTS
GROUNDWATER
Groundwater monitoring data for the third quarter of 1999 are presented in 'Table 1. Appendix E
contains a tabular summary of the historical monitoring data. Concentration limits were updated this
quarter, and monitoring results were compared to the limits presented on Table 1. In several
instances the concentration limits could not be updated because the false positive rate is greater than
5%. An analysis of variance was performed on these constituents and it showed a significant
difference between the upgradient and downgradient wells. But there were no significant increasing
trends and the values of the downgradient wells were found to be significantly lower than the
upgradient well.
QUARTERLY ITOI AND FIELD PARAMETERS
A comparison of the quarterly monitoring and field parameter results to the concentration limits in
Table 1 shows that there are no exceedances this quarter.
VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOC'S)
Six VOC's were detected during the first quarter 1999 monitoring event. Due to the uniformity of
the concentrations, and their relation to laboratory matrix spikes, the County believed these results
to be inaccurate due to laboratory error. MW-3 was resampled as a part of second quarter
monitoring, and the results show non-detectable levels of all VOC's. The County believes that the
first quarter results were in error and that landfill impact has not been verified. For the third quarter
monitoring event Chlorobenzene has been detected in MW-1 and MW-2 in almost exact
concentrations. Because the concentrations are almost the same, and that Chlorobenzene is used for
quality control as a spike, the county believes that these detections may be due to laboratory error.
Nonetheless, the County has resampled both of the wells and will submit a report of the findings of
the retest as soon as results are available.
Surface Water
First storm samples were taken during the first quarter monitoring event. During the third quarter
monitoring event there was no water present for sampling.
6
