INTERFACE LINER <br /> SLOPE REINFORCEMENT DESIGN FOR SLOPES STEEPER THAN 6:1 <br /> WMU FU-04,FORWARD,INC.LANDFILL <br /> PROBLEM: <br /> Estimate the tensile strength of the geogrid required to support the WMU FU-04 interface liner in the <br /> transition area between the southern termination of WMU ART-03 and the northern WMU FU-03 slope. <br /> This area grades at approximately 10 percent to the south. <br /> GIVEN: <br /> The methodology presented in"Landfill Liner Support over Yielding Foundations"by Terence G.Sheridan <br /> of Tensar Corp.estimates the required tensile strength of the geogrid to bridge a collapsible void under the <br /> liner system. Based on discussions with the landfill operator,no voids as large as a refrigerator were <br /> disposed in the area under consideration. Refuse placed consisted of MSW and C&D wastes. The <br /> maximum estimated collapsible void size is approximately 4-ft. <br /> SUMMARY: <br /> 1. The long-term tensile strength required is 551 lbs/ft. Tensar UX 1100 will meet this requirement. <br /> 2. The required longitudinal overlap is approximately 3-ft. <br />
