We
are pleased to report again that VOCs are not detected at any groundwater monitoring well at this
site. You may remember that the Monitoring and Reporting Program requires semi-annual
monitoring of groundwater, but that we were monitoring quarterly as part of evaluation
monitoring. Now that we are again"non-detect" for VOCs, we will resume semi-annual
groundwater monitoring, as we discussed.
The concentration of Chloride,Nitrate, and Sulfate exceeded the concentration limits at various
wells, but the largest exceedence occurred at the upgradient well. We believe this reflects
natural changes of groundwater quality, unrelated to the presence of the landfill.
Soil gas monitoring continues to show the presence of VOCs in the vadose zone. We will
continue to sample quarterly, send you the data when available, and include all data in the semi-
annual reports. Because the combustible gas levels at SG-11 (then the western-most soil gas
well) exceeded 5 percent in May, we installed another soil gas well (SG-12) near the western
property boundary on June 3, 2004. Combustible gas concentration was found to be"non-
detect"with our GEM 500 combustible gas meter at that well, showing that combustible gas is
not migrating into adjacent properties. Samples were taken from this well for TO-14 analysis
this month(July), and we will transmit the results to you as soon as available.
