J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
File No. 5-1008-35
May 17, 1985
Page 10
groundwater and obtain water samples from all these wells. The most detailed information
was obtained from well #2N/9E-11A1, located at the Hatler's residence. Depth to
groundwater measurements have been made on this well continuously since 1959. A copy of
this record is included as Plate XIII and shows a gradual aproximate 14 -foot drop in the
groundwater from 1959 to approximately 19 72 . Between this time and approximately 19 82 ,
there were significant fluctuations in the groundwater table, particularly during the drought
years of 1976 and 1977.
Considerable information was obtained from Mr. Purviance who lives at 7930 Waverly
Road north of the site. Mr. Purviance is in the well drilling business and installed the
Hatler well. He explained that the majority of the wells in this area are 300 to 500 feet
in depth. The Purviance well could not be sounded without removing considerable equipment.
The location of known wells in the vicinity of the site are shown on Plate II. A
summary of the well locations and water measurements are shown on Table II. Since
information could only be obtained on 5 wells, only 2 of which were measured, attempts to
use a kv meter to determine gradient and velocity were made on the one site well. Again
considerable equipment would have to be removed to allow the use of the 2 -inch diameter kv
meter. Although limited data makes a determination of groundwater gradient difficult, it
appears, Cased on the information described above that there is a mounding of the
groundwater profile north of the landfill making the gradient in a westerly to south easterly
direction.
WATER QUALITY
The groundwater in the eastern portion of San Joaquin County is almost without
exception of excellent quality for all present beneficial uses. On April 11, 1985, samples
were obtained from the onsite well near the shop, and the Purviance and Hatler Wells.
These samples were delivered to Nelson Laboratories for analysis and the results are shown
7F, 71
