L
KLEINFELDER
File No. 24-2206-0i.A06
January 2, 1991
been classified according to the Unified Soil Classification
System, described on Plate A-2.
LABORATORY TESTS
Laboratory tests were performed on a variety of samples obtained
from the exploratory borings in order to evaluate permeability and
gradation characteristics of the soils encountered. The tests
consisted of Hydrometer and Falling Head Permeability. The results
of our Hydrometer tests are noted on the Summary of Laboratory
Tests, Plate A-13.
CONCLUSIONS MIM RECCHM— ENDATIONS
Phase I Area Soils for Clay Liner
For this study our firm performed a total of 13 Falling Head
isPermeability tests on various samples, mostly'in their in-situ
state. The tests were performed in accordance with The Corps of
Engineering manual, Test #EM 110-2-1906, with an effective
confining pressure of 4 pounds per square inch. In addition, a
total of 5 tests were performed for our earlier 1985 study. The
results of our Falling Head Permeability tests are as follows:
October 1990
Coefficient
Boring
Depth
of Permeability
Sample
(ft)
Description
k, (cm/sec)
Moisture %
ncf
B-1
20
Silty Clay
7.4 x 10-5
79
37
B-1
3
Cemented
Sandy Silt
2.8 x 10-4
87
21
B-2
5
Silty Clay
2.8 X 10-4
58
40
B-2
30
Cemented
Sandy Silt
1.4 X 10-3
86
16
Copyright 1991 n einfelder,
Inc.
4
