® INTRODUCTION
General
San Joaquin County is submitting this first semester 2005 monitoring report for the Foothill
Sanitary Landfill (FSL)in compliance with Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) Order
No.R5-2003-0020.
The FSL is located in eastern San Joaquin County at Waverly Road, four miles east of Linden, CA
(Figure 1). Land uses within 1,000 feet of the facility are.agricultural. The vicinity receives an
average of about 18 inches of precipitation per year.
The Foothill Sanitary Landfill is a single Class III Waste Management Unit on an 800-acre parcel.
This Unit is comprised of Module ,r,,newly constructed Module 1, and future modules. Future
modules will overlap onto the completed modules until final closure of the Unit. The size of
future modules will be selected in accordance with the refuse disposal rate.
Waste discharged to the landfill includes commercial and household waste,
construction/demolition waste, and agricultural waste.
The total capacity of the landfill is approximately 102 million cubic yards. The active life of the
facility is estimated to allow disposal until year 2058,based on current disposal rates and
capacities (Table 1). The estimated service life will change if disposal rates differ significantly
than those predicted.
TABLE 1
First Semester 2005 Monthly Refuse Disposal
Foothill Sanitary Landfill
Month Refuse Disposal
(Tons)
January 22,597
February 22,050
March 26,088
April 26,293
May 25,284
June 27,052
Foothill Sanitary Landfill Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1 s'r Semester 2005 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin-July 29,2005
