® Surface Water
Surface water samples are collected after the first storm of the rainy season that produces
significant flow and semiannually thereafter, when water is flowing. Surface water samples are
collected from monitoring points S-1 (upstream) and S-2 (downstream) of the landfill (Figure 3).
Surface water samples are analyzed for the following monitoring and field parameters
semiannually:
• Temperature 0 Chloride
• Electrical Conductivity • Sulfate
• pH Nitrate-Nitrogen
• Turbidity Calcium
• Total Dissolved Solids Magnesium
• Carbonate Alkalinity Sodium
• Bicarbonate Alkalinity Potassium
• Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Surface water samples are also analyzed for the following COCs every 5 years:
• Total Organic Carbon
® Inorganics (dissolved)
• VOCs (extended Iist)
• Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds
• Chlorophenoxy Herbicides
• Organophosphorous Compounds
Surface water samples were last analyzed for COCs during the fourth quarter 2004 monitoring
event. The next monitoring event for surface water will occur during the first quarter of 2010.
Leachate
Leachate samples are collected monthly from the sump under module 1. Field parameters
measured monthly include:
• Total flow • Flow rate
• pH & Electrical Conductivity
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 5 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1sT Semester 2005 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin-July 29,2005
