Stiff Diagram Analysis
Stiff diagrams are submitted annually with the second semester and annual report, which is due in
January.2006.
Surface Water
Surface water sampled on December 8, 2004; however, the results of the analyses were not
received at San Joaquin County with sufficient time to be included in the second semester 2004
report. Therefore, these results are presented in this first semester 2005 report. The 5-year COC
monitoring was conducted this event.
Monitoring and Field Parameters
The concentrations of all monitoring and field parameters were below the concentration limits
where the limits could be determined. One VOC (Acetone)was reported at downstream sampling
point SW-2. Note that water did not flow from the retention and sedimentation areas during the
rainy season, and there was no acetone spill reported to the County. Therefore, we conclude that
this is a false positive.
5-Year Constituents of Concern
Total Organic Carbon was reported at both SW-1 and SW-2 at almost the same concentration,
indicating no contribution by landfill run-off. The reported concentration was less than the
concentration limit. One chlorinated herbicide(2,4-DB)was reported at upstream sampling point
SW-1. Because the herbicide was from the upstream sampling point, we conclude that the source
other than the landfill.
One organophosphorous pesticide (Naled)was report at both upstream SW-1 and downstream
SW-2Two dissolved metals were reported. These were found at both sampling points at nearly the
same concentration. The concentrations reported were below the concentrations limits. This data
indicates no contribution by landfill run-off.
Leachate
Waste Discharge Requirements require monitoring leachate flow rate,pH, and Electrical
Conductivity on a monthly basis (Table 6). The LCRS seems to be operating satisfactorily. The
first leachate sampling and analysis at FSL was performed in the March 2005. Annual monitoring
parameters and COCs were analyzed(Table 4). The compound with the highest concentration
was reported to be 2-butanone, followed by acetone. A total of fourteen VOCs were reported. No
semivolatile organic compounds, pesticides or herbicides were reported. Eight metals were
reported,with iron most highly concentrated.
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 8 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
1 sr Semester 2005 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin-July 29,2005
