C11 t 1J1 a/als a -
Appliance Processing& Freon Removal
Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility & Transfer Station
Part 1• Services Provided by Onsite Electronics Recyclin>;
Onsite Electronics Recycling provides appliance recycling services to the County at the
Lovelace Materials Recovery Facility & Transfer Station (LMRF&TS).
Certified Appliance Recycling
The Department of Toxic Substances Control requires that anyone who removes
materials that require special handling from major appliances be a Certified Appliance
Recycler (CAR). A CAR is certified by DTSC to remove and properly manage materials
that require special handling from discarded major appliances.
Onsite Electronics Recycling (CAR# 0294) is responsible for the removal of all materials
requiring special handling from major appliances processed at the LMRF&TS. This
includes both Freon(such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water coolers)
and non-Freon containing appliances (such as washers, dryers, ovens, stoves, furnaces,
space heaters, water heaters and trash compactors). Materials requiring special handling
include Freon, mercury probes and switches, used oil from compressors and
transmissions, metal encased capacitors and encased PCBs or DEHP.
Appliance Recycling Operations
Onsite conducts appliance recycling at LMRF&TS each Monday and Thursday. These
days ensure that the appliance area is cleaned up after the weekend (Monday) and again
prior to the next weekend (Thursday). However, at any time that there is an unusual
fluctuation in volume, Onsite will supplement staffing as needed in order to ensure the
appliance build up does not exceed storage capacity.
Onsite provides the following equipment for use in managing appliances:
Freon Removal: Refrigerant Vacuum Pump, hose and connectors
Refrigerant Manifold
Generator
Piercing Valves
Recovery Cylinders
Oil Removal: Sawzall
Socket Set
Wire Cutters
Drill and Bits
Hammer
Chisel and/or punch
Mercury Switch and Ballast
or Capacitor Removal: Wire Cutters
Drill and bits
