H.rrr,ivvin a <br /> • Direct traffic at the Material Recycling areas, directing traffic to unload waste <br /> types in proper locations or bins. <br /> • Perform services (i.e. removing oils, mercury devices, electrical ballasts) on <br /> appliances and other household items that require special handling or disposal. <br /> • Perform service of removing regulated components of electrical equipment for <br /> recycling. <br /> • Perform general clean up, raking, sweeping, and shoveling <br /> • Operate light trucks on highways and County roads between landfills and inspect <br /> light truck for safety requirements; enter mileage in vehicle log, and notify <br /> Supervisors of any mechanical defects. <br /> • Maintain and protect all tools and equipment from damage or loss. <br /> Designated Refuse Worker I or Certified Appliance Recycler <br /> Due to the level of technical understanding required, and the potential for injury, removal <br /> of refrigerants and other regulated materials from appliances may only be performed by a <br /> Certified Appliance Recycler. The Certified Appliance Recycler may work under limited <br /> supervision. In this assignment, the employee is responsible for a large amount of tools <br /> and must protect them against theft, damage, or loss. In this position, the employee will <br /> be working with power(electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and gas) operated equipment and <br /> hand tools. Employees in this position are expected to read and understand the Appliance <br /> Recycling Guide, published by the California Integrated Waste Management Board <br /> (located in Appendix J), and the Self Training Manual for Removing Mercury Switches <br /> from Major Appliances, published by the Department of Toxic Substances Control, and <br /> adhere to the rules regarding white goods and Freon containing appliances. Employees <br /> are expected to safely remove Freon and other regulated materials from major appliances <br /> and store them for proper recycling and disposal. Each employee is expected to read and <br /> understand the operations manuals for equipment assigned to the position. This <br /> employee is expected to read and understand the Program guides. Each day, this <br /> employee is expected to perform the following daily assignments in the order listed: <br /> I. Report to the Material Recovery Facility Supervisor. <br /> 2. Service major appliances by removing refrigerants and regulated materials; mark <br /> the appliances to indicate the unit is ready for crushing and loading. <br /> 3. Clean up the area used for servicing, including any oil contaminated soils. <br /> 4. Place all contaminated soil and regulated material in designated, labeled drums. <br /> 5. Document the number of units serviced and the amount of materials removed on <br /> the appliance service form. <br /> 6. Package all regulated material for transportation and load in truck. <br /> 7. Once a week, send regulated material to designated disposal facilities; <br /> 8. Prepare all equipment for next day's assignments. <br /> 9. Other tasks, as assigned. <br /> Page 7 of 7 <br />
