Mondays and on either Thursday or Friday. The leachate tank discharge pump operates
automatically to maintain the tank level between l/and 2/3 full.
Leachate from the Module 1-3 tank is discharged to a horizontal LFG collector installed
immediately beneath the intermediate cover of Module 3 at approximate elevation 160 NGVD.
Approximately 70 feet of refuse in multiple lifts has been placed below this collector
Module 4
Facilities
The leachate facilities for Module 4 include:
■ Sump with dedicated pump for Module 4
■ Volumetric flow meter for the leachate sump pump, indicating total gallons pumped and
instantaneous flow rate
■ A 10,000 gallon leachate storage tank
■ Transfer pump (to fill water trucks, if needed)
■ Return Pump (to pump leachate back to one of the Modules allowed to receive leachate,
if needed)
Operation
Leachate drains by gravity to the Module 4 sump, from which it is either pumped to the 10,000-
gallon storage tank or directly to the landfill refuse per the WDRs. The sump pump operates
automatically, based on leachate levels within the sump. The leachate pump intake is located 24
inches above the floor of the sump to avoid pulling soil from sump into the pump. Control
points for the pump are:
Indicated Depth Actual Depth
inches inches
Pua!2 Off: 8 32
Pum On: 18 42
High Level Alarm: 1 24 1 48
Operation of the pump is conditional upon sufficient water in the sump and available capacity in
the leachate tank. The high level alarm is set to alarm at the upper lip of the sump, thus alerting
the operators before the one-foot leachate limit is exceeded at the Module floor beyond the sump.
The leachate storage tank is steel, of double-walled construction. The tank is provided with two
sensors:
North County RCSL 11 Public Works/Solid Waste
1st Semester 2006 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin—July 31,2006
