A single <br /> trace VOC (acetone) was detected in the samples collected from all three monitoring wells on <br /> January 31. Our suspicion that this was caused by laboratory or other contamination was <br /> confirmed when the retest of May 4 did not find acetone. Such sporadic and inconsistent findings <br /> reflect the extreme sensitivity of the analyses and the difficulty in making any laboratory <br /> environment contaminant-free. <br /> With the exception of these sporadic"detections" and false positive reports due to laboratory <br /> contamination, no VOCs have been found at Foothill Sanitary Landfill since October 2002. The <br /> presence of VOCs in the soil gas at least since monitoring began in October 2003 and the absence <br /> ' of impact by VOCs to groundwater at any well since February 2002 seems to indicate that the <br /> presence of VOCs at these concentrations does not threaten the groundwater at this landfill. <br /> Surface water was sampled this semester.
