INTRODUCTION
General
On behalf of San Joaquin County(County), Shaw Environmental Inc. (Shaw)has prepared this first semester
2007 monitoring report for the Foothill Sanitary Landfill (FSL) in compliance with Waste Discharge
Requirements (WDR) Order No. R5-2003-0020.
1 The FSL is located in eastern San Joaquin County at 6484 N. Waverly Road, four miles east of Linden, CA
(Figure 1). Land uses within 1,000 feet of the facility are agricultural. The vicinity receives an average of
' about 18 inches of precipitation per year.
The FSL is a single Class III Waste Management Unit on an 800-acre parcel. This Unit is comprised of
tModule "I", Module 1, and future modules. Future modules will overlap onto the completed modules until
final closure of the Unit. The size of future modules will be selected in accordance with the refuse disposal
rate.
Waste discharged to the landfill includes commercial and household waste, construction/demolition waste,
and agricultural waste. Figure 2 shows the active waste disposal area during this reporting period.
The total capacity of the landfill is approximately 102 million cubic yards. The active life of the facility is
estimated to allow disposal until the year 2058,based on current disposal rates and capacities. The estimated
service life will change if disposal rates differ significantly than those predicted. The quantity of waste
placed during the reporting period is shown in Table 1.
TABLE1
First Semester 2007 Monthly Refuse Disposal
Foothill Sanitary Landfill
Month Refuse Disposal
(Tons)
January 24.395.4
February 21,585.5
March 27.221.8
' April 25,043.2
May 25,742.3
' F- June 24,791.2
Geology
The first water bearing zone encountered is in sandy gravel at a depth of more than 200 feet.
