E. Nature, Age of Waste and Potential to Generate Landfill Gas (LFG).
The nature and age of the refuse placed in the FSL does not prompt special
design features for the LFG migration monitoring wells. Wastes disposed to the
site are mostly commercial and household waste, construction/demolition waste,
and agricultural waste.
III. ON-SITE STRUCTURE MONITORING
On-site occupiable structures will be monitored for methane gas concentration. These
structures and their monitoring points of compliance are identified below.
ON-SITE STRUCTURE MONITORINGLOCATIONS POINT OF COMPLIANCE
Scale House Interior air Electrical conduit-entry point
within the building
Maintenance Building Interior air Electrical conduit-entry point
within the building
Managers Residence Crawl space below building Electrical conduit-entry point
within the building
On-Site Residence (South Crawl space below building Electrical conduit-entry point
of entrance road within the building
IV. MONITORING PROCEDURES
Concentration of methane gas generated by the decomposition of refuse within the
property boundary of FSL will be monitored with the following requirements:
1. Concentration of methane gas does not exceed the lower explosive limit for
methane (5%) at the monitoring perimeter soil gas wells.
2. Concentration of methane gas does not exceed 25 percent of the lower explosive
limit for methane (1.25%) in on-site structures.
A. Monitoring Methods
Combustible gas concentration will be measured with instruments utilizing infrared
absorption, catalytic combustion, or thermal conductivity. If catalytic combustion is
used, oxygen will also be measured to verify sufficient oxygen to enable the
catalytic combustion feature to function.
Combustible gas concentration (percent by volume) will be recorded using sample
forms as found in Appendix A.
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 5 County of San Joaquin
Landfill Gas Monitoring Plan Department of Public Works
Solid Waste Division
