INTRODUCTION
General
This Second Semester and Annual 2007 Monitoring Report for the Foothill Sanitary Landfill (FSL) is
submitted in compliance with Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR) Order No. R5-2003-0020.
The FSL is located in eastern San Joaquin County at 6484 N. Waverly Road, four miles east of Linden, CA
(Figure 1). Land uses within 1,000 feet of the facility are agricultural. The vicinity receives an average of
about 18 inches of precipitation per year.
The FSL is a single Class III Waste Management Unit on an 800-acre parcel. This Unit is comprised of
Module "I",Module 1, and future modules. Future modules will overlap onto the completed modules until
final closure of the Unit. The size of future modules will be selected in accordance with the refuse disposal
rate.
Waste discharged to the landfill includes commercial and household waste, construction/demolition waste,
and agricultural waste. Disposal in this semester occurred over Module 1 (Figure 2).
The total capacity of the landfill is approximately 102 million cubic yards. The active life of the facility is
estimated to allow disposal until the year 2058,based on current disposal rates and capacities. The estimated
service life will change if disposal rates differ significantly than those predicted. The quantity of waste
placed during the reporting period is shown in Table 1.
TABLE 1
Second Semester 2007 Monthly Refuse Disposal
Foothill Sanitary Landfill
Month Refuse Disposal
(Tons)
Jul 25,533
Aug24,002
Sep 21,369
Oct 23,811
Nov 21,077
Dec 15,017
Geology
The first water bearing zone encountered is in sandy gravel at a depth of more than 200 feet. Groundwater
elevations range from approximately 46 to 61 feet MSL. The groundwater is unconfined or partially
confined. Groundwater elevations fluctuate less than one foot seasonally.
Above the water bearing zone, the soil layers are moderately to well-cemented layers of sandstone and
siltstone with claystone and conglomerates. This soil is mostly moderately slow in permeability with
sporadic sandy layers that are well drained.
Foothill Sanitary Landfill 3 Department of Public Works/Solid Waste
2`d Semester and Annual 2007 Groundwater Monitoring County of San Joaquin—January 31,2008
