Landfill Gas Migration Monitoring Well Installation Report October 2009
Foothill Landfill Project No. 03160203
2.0 FIELD WORK
.1 Permitting and Health and Safety
Vector was not responsible for any permitting. LFG Control Corporation (LFG
Control) was responsible for obtaining permits from EHD to drill and install the
landfill gas migration monitoring wells, which required submission of a Health and
Safety plan. Vector representatives attended a health and safety meeting for the
project, held by San Joaquin Public Works on July 20, 2009 at the North County
Landfill.
2.2 Landfill Gas Migration Monitoring Well Installation
Landfill gas migration monitoring wells (SG-102 through SG-125) were installed by
LFG Control at the FSL between July 29 and August 17, 2009. Table 1 presents the
as-built probe construction dimensions for the LFG monitoring probes. The
locations of the LFG migration monitoring wells were staked in the field by San
Joaquin Public Works personnel prior to drilling activities (Table 2). LFG Control
subcontracted the drilling to: PC Exploration out of Rocklin, California, who used
two hollow stem auger rigs (Mobile B-61 and Ingersoll Rand A-400); Technicon out
of Fresno, California, who used one hollow stem auger rig (CME-55); and Westex
Drilling out of Clarksburg, California, who used one air rotary rig (Star 30k). The
outer diameter of the hollow-steam augers was 8 inches, and the outer diameter of
the drive casing used by the air rotary rig was 8.5 inches. The total boring depths of
the holes ranged from 63 ft to 170 ft, and the deep probes were installed at depths
ranging from 63 feet to 166 feet below ground surface.
Vector representatives were onsite during all drilling and well construction. EHD
staff were onsite during well construction and backfill activities to inspect the probe
installation and to confirm probe construction met permit specifications. Soil
cuttings from drilling all wells were spread out on site.
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive•Grass Valley, CA 95945- (530)272-2448
2
