Run-off is collected in a sedimentation
tank equipped with a dosing siphon and flow totalizer. The test pad seepage is collected
along the pan lysimeter and conveyed to a tipping bucket/counter as shown in the
collection station instrumentation diagram (Plate 8).
2.1 RAINFALL MONITORING
Rainfall data collected at the Test Pad during the July 1, 2010/June 30, 2011 (water
year) is summarized in Table 1. The data are available on a CD in Appendix A. Rainfall
data is collected using a tipping bucket rain gauge located at the test pad (west station).
Rainfall data is measured in inches of rain and then converted to cubic feet water within
the known volume of the test pad. The data is collected and analyzed each month
during the rainy season (October through June).
2.2 RUN-OFF MONITORING
Run-off is measured after it leaves the test pad area. Whatever amount of precipitation
that does not seep into the ground surface soil travels along the test pad ground
surface, collects at a central drain point, and is conveyed to the collection station
located outside of the test pad area (Plate 4). Run-off from the Test Pad has been
historically measured using a dosing siphon with a cycle counter. The dosing siphon
typically records 10 gallon increments, and our estimate may be susceptible to error due
to low flow rates, debris accumulated in the pipe, and evaporation from the primary
sedimentation tank between precipitation events. No run-off was measured during the
2010/2011 season. The data are available in electronic form in Appendix A.
The sediment tank that was damaged during the summer months of 2010 was replaced
in August 2010.
47717.11/ST011R193 Page 3 of 9 August 31, 2011
Copyright 2011 Kleinfelder
