The laboratory performed
analysis via modified EPA Method TO -14A using GC/MS in the full scan mode. The method involves
concentrating up to 0.2 liters of air. The concentrated aliquot is then flash vaporized and swept
through a water management system to remove water vapor. Following dehumidification, the sample
passes directly into the GC/MS for analysis.
This workorder was independently validated prior to submittal using 'USEPA National Functional
Guidelines' as generally applied to the analysis of volatile organic compounds in air. A rules -based,
logic driven, independent validation engine was employed to assess completeness, evaluate pass/fail of
relevant project quality control requirements and verification of all quantified amounts.
Method modifications taken to run these samples are summarized in the table below. Specific project
reauirements may over -ride the ATL modifications.
Requirement
TO -14A
ATL Modifications
Initial Calibration criteria
RSD</=30%
Follow TO -15 requirements of RSD</=30% with two
compounds allowed out to </=401/oRSD.
BFB absolute abundance
criteria
Within 10% of that
from previous day
CCV internal standard area counts are compared to
ICAL, corrective action when recovery is less than 60%.
Blank acceptance criteria
<0.20 ppbv
<Reporting Limit
Sample Drying System
Nafion Dryer
Multibed hydrophobic sorbent
Sample collection media
Summa canister
ATL recommends use of summa canisters to insure data
defensibility, but will report results from Tedlar bags at
client request
BFB ion abundance criteria
Ion abundance listed in
Table 4 of TO -14A
Follow ion abundance criteria listed in Method TO -15
Receiving Notes
There were no receiving discrepancies.
Analytical Notes
Dilution was performed on samples SG10 and SGO1 due to the presence of high level target species.
Dilution was performed on sample SG07 due to the presence of high level non -target species.
Bromomethane had high recoveries in the daily CCV and LCS/LCSD outside method and laboratory
acceptance criteria. Associated samples had no detections for Bromomethane.
AllQ tY uali Control Limit exceedences and affected sample results are noted by flags. Each flag is
defined at the bottom of this Case Narrative and on each Sample Result Summary page. Target
Page 3 of 35
