Job Safety Analysis
Gas Leachate Tie-In Flammable,Toxic, Oxygen deficient Atmosphere . Isolate gas from tie-in area by closing any and all
valves upstream and downstream of tie in area or attach
a vacuum to the tie-in line.
• Test pipe atmosphere for flammable/toxic vapors,and
oxygen deficiency by first installing a sample port by
hand drilling with a bit and brace drill
• Stand upwind of work area when possible
• Use copious blower to ventilate area
• Continuously monitor breathing zone air to determine
levels of contaminants
• Review hazardous properties of site contaminants with
all tie-in participants
• Review emergency procedures before work
commences
• Provide safety observer outside work area if in
confined space
• Use body harness, safety belt with tripod winch for
possible rescue if in confined space
Gas Leachate Tie-In Sharp Objects • Wear cut/needle resistant work gloves and hard knee
pads when the possibility of lacerations or other injury
may be caused by sharp
edges or objects
• Maintain all hand and power tools in a safe condition
Gas Leachate Tie-In Insert/Animal Bites • Review injury potential and types of animals with
workers
• Inspect work area for insect nest areas
• Use insect repellant when necessary
• Self inspect for ticks/insects following work activities
Gas Leachate Tie-In High Noise Levels • Use hearing protection when exposed to excessive
noise levels(greater than 85 dBA over an 8-hour work
period)
Gas Leachate Tie-In Handling Heavy Objects • Observe proper lifting techniques
• Obey sensible lifting limits(60 lb.maximum per
person manual lifting)
• Use mechanical lifting equipment(hand carts,trucks)
to move large,awkward loads
