Rotary Head
The rotary head should be adjusted at the first sign of play in the head. The increments adjusted
should be made to center the rotary onto the mast. You can use the part of the rotary that goes
around the mast as a guide. Tighten the screws until the adjustment bottoms out against the mast
then back off a 1/4 turn. Set and lock all the locking screws against the adjustment screws. The
rotary should be adjusted once a week.
Crown Shives
Check the crown skives often. The shives are the two rollers at the top of the mast. With the
mast down and no tension on the main cable see if the shives move side to side. If they do, then
that means that the bearings are going out of the chives. If you notice movement then
immediately call someone to let them know and get the problem fixed.
Tracks Links
Inspect the links for cracks or excessive wear patterns
Miscellaneous
Seat belts should be worn at all times.
Service of the drill rig is important. Use the hour meter to schedule the service. Services should
be every 250 hours. Depending where the hours will depend on what service the machine will
require. Example 1250 hours get a 250 hour service. 1500 hours get a 500 hour service. 1750
gets a 250 hour service. 2000 hours gets a 1000 hour service.
Grease the major pivot and action points daily(mast, swivel, rotary, bearings). If you notice that
a grease zerk is missing or broke get the part replaced. Here is a summary of the routine
maintenance.
1. Lube the major pivot points every eight hours.
2. Check and adjust Kelly drive housing slides every 40 hours.
3. Check and lube swing bearing 360 degrees every eight hours.
4. Check swing bearing bolt torque every 250 hour service. (420 +/- 441b ft.)
5. Inspect swing bearing bolts daily.
6. Check fluid level of Kelly drive daily. (sight glass on left.)
7. Check machine for missing or loose bolts daily.
8. Check hydraulic hoses daily.
9. Inspect cable on regular basis. Replace at first sign of fray.
10. Inspect tracks and under carriage daily. Remove lodged trash.
11. Pull Kelly bars every 500 hours and inspect interior of Rotary if needed build up.
These checks are to be performed in addition to those outlined in the CAT320 operation
and maintenance manual.
Fill the fuel tank on the trucks each evening.
