As proposed in the Revised EFS recently prepared for the existing Austin Road <br /> Landfill by HA/AEE (2001), treated water would no longer be discharged to the <br /> North Branch but, would instead, be reintroduced to the aquifer in the vicinity of <br /> monitoring well MW-11. In combination with plans for an enhanced landfill gas <br /> collection system, reintroduction of treated water to the aquifer is expected to <br /> reduce existing VOC impacts below Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) <br /> (drinking water standards) within five years and below the Water Standard (one <br /> part per billion) within nine years. <br /> 2.3 SURFACE WATER <br /> 2.3.1 SURFACE WATER PROTECTION <br /> The only surface water bodies adjacent to the site are the North Branch and <br /> South Branch of the South Fork of Little Johns Creek which are tributary to the <br /> San Joaquin River. The North Branch has been realigned to flow to the north <br /> and west of the Forward Landfill, and the South Branch flows along the <br /> southern border. <br /> 2.3.2 SURFACE WATER MONITORING <br /> Surface water monitoring is completed quarterly in accordance with the site's <br /> WDR's. Monitoring is performed for the North Branch and South Branch of <br /> Little Johns Creek (see Figure 4). Table 3 lists the surface water monitoring <br /> stations at the site together with their current and expected future use. <br /> 2.4 LEACHATE COLLECTION AND REMOVAL SYSTEM/MONITORING <br /> The majority of the existing WMUs at the Forward Landfill contain blanket <br /> leachate collection and removal system (LCRS) systems.
