3.7 SUBGRADE FILL
A. Place Subgrade Fill at locations shown on the Construction Drawings or as
directed by the QA/QC Consultant. Place material in lifts not exceeding 8-inch
uniform thickness. Each lift shall be compacted to a relative compaction of not
less than 90 percent (ASTM D1557).
B. During all compacting operations, maintain optimum practicable moisture content
required for compaction purposes in each lift of fill. Maintain uniform moisture
content throughout the lift. At the time of compaction, the water content of the
material shall be within 4 percent of the optimum moisture content.
C. Do not attempt to compact fill material that contains excessive moisture. Aerate
material by blading, discing, harrowing, or other methods to hasten the drying
process.
3.8 GRADING AND SUBGRADE PREPARATION
A. This Work shall consist of fine grading and preparation of lining subgrade for the
construction of the base and side slope lining. The lining subgrade is further
defined as those areas and surfaces within the subgrade upon which lining
materials are to be placed.
I. Fine grading shall be performed to grade the subgrade to within the
tolerances specified in Section 01410, SURVEYS.
2. The prepared subgrade surface shall be smooth and free of major
irregularities. The subgrade should contain no exposed particles larger than
I inch or other surface irregularities which, in the opinion of the QA/QC
CONSULTANT, will damage the overlying GCL and 60-mil HDPE
geomembrane.
3. Overexcavation below the established lining subgrade by the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall, at his expense, be backfilled with
Clay Liner Material or General Earthfill Material as directed by the QA/QC
CONSULTANT.
4. All traffic shall be kept off the lining subgrade.
5. The lining subgrade shall be maintained in the finished condition until the
first succeeding course is placed. Any damage to the prepared lining
subgrade by the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall be repaired, at the
EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's expense. Any damage to the prepared
lining subgrade by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR, including
those caused by a delay of the GEOSYNHETICS CONTRACTOR, shall be
at the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR's expense.
FORWARD LANDFILL 02300
12 EARTHWORK
