B. Butt-Fusion Joining: Butt-fusion of pipes and fittings shall be performed in <br /> accordance with the pipe manufacturer's recommendations as to equipment and <br /> technique. Depending on site conditions, butt-fusion joining shall be performed <br /> in or outside of the excavation at the EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR's option. <br /> 3.6 PLACEMENT IN LEACHATE COLLECTION TRENCH <br /> A. General: Care shall be exercised when lowering pipe into the trench to prevent <br /> damage or twisting of the pipe. <br /> B. Pipe Base: Pipe and fittings shall be laid directly on Coarse Gravel in leachate <br /> collection trench as shown on Construction Drawings. The trench bottom shall be <br /> carefully shaped to conform to the shape of the pipe and fittings for the bottom <br /> one-quarter of the pipe. <br /> C. Coarse Gravel Backfill: Backfill material shall be as specified in Section 02300, <br /> EARTHWORK, and shall be placed in accordance with that Section and as shown <br /> on the Construction Drawings. <br /> 3.7 CONNECTION TO EXISTING LEACHATE COLLECTION PIPES <br /> A. Route existing western leachate pipe from WMU ART-03 onto base of WMU <br /> FU-03. The WMU ART-03 leachate pipe shall be field fit and located such that it <br /> shall not damage WMU FU-03 lining system components. <br /> B. Relocate existing WMU ART-03 leachate tank to the east of WMU FU-03. <br /> C. Route existing eastern leachate pipe from WMU ART-03 to the relocated leachate <br /> tank. <br /> 3.8 PLACEMENT OF LEACHATE RISER PIPES <br /> A. Place leachate riser pipes at location shown on the Construction Drawings. <br /> B. Connect pipe sections by thermal butt fusion. <br /> C. Construct leachate riser support as described in Section 02300, EARTHWORK. <br /> 3.9 PROTECTION OF PIPE <br /> A. No construction traffic shall cross the pipe without sufficient cover as determined <br /> by the DESIGN ENGINEER. <br /> B. The EARTHWORK CONTRACTOR shall construct at least one crossing point <br /> within WMU FU-03 to provide access for necessary construction traffic. These <br /> crossing points shall consist at a minimum of the completed Coarse Gravel and <br /> Granular Drainage Material Components, and a minimum of 2.5 feet of Protective <br /> Operations Layer extending a minimum of 4 feet from the centerline of the pipe in <br /> each direction. <br /> FORWARD LANDFILL 02535 <br /> 4 LEACHATE PIPES <br />
