3.3 STEEL-RIBBED POLYETHYLENE PIPE (SRP') DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS <br /> 40 3.3.1 Trench Excavation <br /> No excavation which exceeds 5 feet in depth shall begin until the Contractor has submitted and <br /> received approval of Trench Excavation Safety Plan in accordance with Section 5-1.02A of the <br /> Standard Specifications. <br /> Minimum trench width excavation shall be the outside diameter of the pipe plus 18 inches. <br /> Maximum trench width shall not exceed the Manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> 3.3.2 Pipe Installation <br /> Subgrade for the pipe shall be graded to provide for a uniform bearing along the entire length of <br /> the pipe, and shall be free or rocks or projections which may damage the pipe. The subgrade <br /> shall be firm and unyielding. Areas which have been overexcavated shall be recompacted to a <br /> minimum density of 90 percent of the maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D1557. <br /> 3.3.3 Bedding, Backfill and Compaction <br /> Bedding material shall be placed and compacted to a depth of 1 foot above the top of the pipe. <br /> Compaction shall be accomplished with hand-operated equipment, or with equipment which will <br /> not exceed the loading requirements recommended by the Manufacturer. The remainder of the <br /> excavation shall then be backfilled with native material free of rocks or particles in excess of 3 <br /> inches in the greatest dimension. The material shall be placed in loose lifts not to exceed 8 <br /> inches and compacted to a minimum density of 90 percent of the maximum dry density as <br /> AOL <br /> determined by ASTM D1557. <br /> 3.4 PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE (PCC) IMPROVEMENTS <br /> PCC improvements shall be constructed to the line and grade indicated on the Drawings and <br /> shall be placed in accordance with the requirements of Sections 51 and 73 of the Standard <br /> Specifications, as applicable. Reinforcement for PCC improvements shall be installed in <br /> accordance with Section 52 of the Standard Specifications. <br /> Trapezoidal channels, or other drainage improvements to be constructed with shot Crete shall be <br /> completed in accordance with the requirements of Section 53 of the Standard Specifications. <br /> 3.5 GABION MAT AND ROCK MATERIAL <br /> 3.5.1 Gabions <br /> A. Assembly: The gabion unit shall be assembled individually, by erecting the sides <br /> (front and back), ends and diaphragm(s), ensuring that all creases are in the correct <br /> position and the tops of all sides satisfactorily leveled. <br /> FORWARD LANDFILL 02645 <br /> 7 MISCELLANEOUS CIVIL IMPROVEMENTS <br />
