PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 PLACEMENT OF GEOCOMPOSITE
A. Place and anchor the Geocomposite in the manner and at the locations shown on the
Construction Drawings and as directed by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. Place
Geocomposite with the long dimensions downslope, unless otherwise directed by the
DESIGN ENGINEER. Install Geocomposite smooth and free of tensions, stress,
folds, wrinkles, or creases.
B. Secure, leak-proof bags of sand shall be used to secure the Geocomposite during
installation. Securing pins shall not be used. Sandbags that are placed on the
Geocomposite at the base of the slope shall be removed by the EARTHWORK
CONTRACTOR immediately prior to placement of the overlying granular drainage
material.
C. Care shall be taken to keep the Geocomposite clean and free from debris prior to
installation. If Geocomposite is not free of soil and debris before installation,it shall
be cleaned by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR just prior to installation.
D. Lay Geocomposite to ensure that runouts at terminations and tie-ins are placed to the
minimum dimensions shown on Construction Drawings. Place Geocomposite in
anchor trench at top of slope to the minimum dimensions shown on Construction
AMML Drawings.
3.2 JOINTS
A. Horizontal Joints: No horizontal joints will be permitted without prior approval
of the DESIGN ENGINEER.
B. Vertical Joints: Geocomposite panels shall be laid smooth to provide a minimum
width of 4 inches of geonet overlap for each vertical joint. Geonet vertical joints
shall be tied at 5-foot intervals using a method approved by the QA/QC
CONSULTANT. Plastic ties or tying materials shall be of contrasting color to the
Geocomposite panels for inspection. Metallic connectors shall not be allowed.
C. Sewn Seams: The geotextile component of the Geocomposite shall be joined by
sewing continuously.
1. Seam Efficiency:
a. Minimum 70 percent.
b. Tested according to ASTM D4884.
2. Types:
a. Preferred: "J" type seams.
b. Acceptable: Flat or butterfly seams.
3.
